Small Press Fair is an annual event for local and regional artists, printers, booksellers, publishers, authors, poets, bookmakers, designers, zinesters and cultural workers to share ideas and showcase new work related to printmaking, book making and zine creation.
Every year, an artist is selected to give the fair a visual identity and design all promotional materials for that year's fair.
During my time at IS Projects / Nocturnal Press, I was selected and had the exciting opportunity to utilize the letterpress collection at IS Projects to design for SPF'23.
To create the designs, I digitized actual image cuts and wood and lead type from the letterpress collection at IS Projects. All of the fonts and illustrations seen can be found in their physical forms at the studio.

Above, you can see some behind-the-scenes shots of the form set up in the press while I was printing the commemorative posters.
Here is the final SPF'23 Poster made with hand-set wood and lead type and screen printed background. Typesetting, letterpress printing, and design were all done by me.
I also designed all day-of signage including banners and way finding signs to help guests navigate the fair. You can see a speed run through the fair in the Instagram post below:
SPF’23 took place Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12, 2023 and welcomed 80 exhibitors and 875+ print, book and zine fans of all kinds.
